Why do molds rust

Sep 09, 2024 Leave a message

In daily life, we come into contact with plastic bottle caps almost every moment. These caps are all made of precision plastic bottle cap molds. During use, we sometimes encounter a headache: how to effectively solve and prevent rusting of the plastic bottle cap molds produced?

Firstly, it is crucial to have a deep understanding of the root cause of rusting in Heyan molds before exploring solutions. Rust is essentially caused by a chemical reaction between the surface of the mold and oxygen, water, or other corrosive substances in the surrounding environment, resulting in rust on the metal surface. For joint research molds, the reasons for rusting may include but are not limited to the following:

1. Use in a humid environment: If Heyan molds are stored in a damp or high moisture environment for a long time, especially without proper protective treatment, it is highly likely to cause mold rusting.
2. Improper maintenance: If the mold is not cleaned and coated with rust inhibitor in a timely manner after use, residual plastic residue, grease or other impurities will become a breeding ground for corrosion, accelerating the rusting process.
3. Material selection: Although joint research molds are usually made of high-quality, corrosion-resistant steel, the corrosion resistance of different materials to specific environments still varies. If the material selection is improper, it may also lead to premature rusting of the mold.
4. Improper operation: During the production process, if the mold is physically damaged by impacts, scratches, etc., it will damage the rust proof layer on its surface and increase the risk of rusting. In addition, using inappropriate cooling water or lubricants may also cause corrosion to the mold.

In response to the above reasons, we can take the following measures to effectively deal with and prevent rusting of the joint research mold:
1. Optimize storage environment: Ensure that the mold is stored in a dry and well ventilated environment, avoiding prolonged exposure to moisture or corrosive gases.
2. Strengthen maintenance: After each use, thoroughly clean the surface of the mold, remove all residues, and apply an appropriate amount of rust inhibitor to form a protective layer. Regularly conduct comprehensive inspections of molds to promptly identify and address potential corrosion issues.
3. Selected materials: When designing and manufacturing joint research molds, appropriate steel materials are selected according to specific usage environments and requirements to ensure good corrosion resistance.
4. Standardize operating procedures: Strengthen employee training to ensure that operators are familiar with and follow the correct operating procedures, and avoid unnecessary physical damage to molds. At the same time, suitable cooling water and lubricants should be selected to reduce the corrosive effect on the mold.
In summary, by conducting in-depth analysis of the causes of rust in the joint research mold and taking targeted prevention and treatment measures, we can effectively extend the service life of the mold, improve production efficiency and product quality.
